Tokyo female group GALLHAMMER was formed in February 2003 by Vivian Slaughter (bass/vocals), following her passion for the primitive work of Swiss legends HELLHAMMER & other metal, punk & crust acts.

The new GALLHAMMER studio release, The End, was recorded at Void)))Lab in Tokyo in mid-October 2010 & evolves further from the foundations of Ill Innocence, with an album of disturbing & dark drone music with a hypnotic bass & drum combination mixed with the band's raw black metal & punk origins. To further enhance the GALLHAMMER sound circa 2011, there is also the introduction of saxophone performed by Vivian, who describes the overall album direction as "strange & psychedelic experimental sounds of doom".

Review

For 'the end' Gallhammer have reached deep inside themselves to create an album that is epic and genuinely thrilling. Glacial, grimy and altogether unpleasant it is a mini-masterpiece powered almost entirely by the band's sense of conviction and passion for their subject matter and is certainly one of 2011's essential purchases. Don't miss this one, it is easily one of the most absorbing doom/black metal albums to appear for some time and it is hard to imagine a better release from the genre this year. - 5/5
