The concept is the title, the maelstrom chaos. It's about sinking into insanity and lose the sence of what is real and what is not. This is no total theme through the album, though, but you get some hints here and there. Also the whole structure of the album is about sinking into this chaos. That the album is more technical is simply a natural development for us since we have develpoped as musicians and also as song writers which opens doors to different kind of playing-styles.

MÖRK GRYNING released their third album, Maelstrom Chaos, on this day in 2001 through No Fashion.
Most Black Metal bands are completely into the black metal scene and nothing else. We listen to black metal as well, but only as a small part of our musical diet. I listen to everything from heavy electronica and Industry to classical music, as well as metal of the 70'ies, 80'ies, 90'ies and todays bands. Then I don't mean bands such as Hammerfall, playing "old" music, but more inventing bands such as Tool, System of a down, Mr Bungle etc.
I don't really see "classical" music as a certain music style. It contains so much different categories. I'm very fond of russian composers such as Shostakovitch, Mussorgsky and Schnittke, but also more classic stuff. But I think a better description is to say that I'm into "art" music, which (apart from classical music) includes (to me) lot's of electronic music as well as old brittish progressive rock bands such as King Crimson and Yes.
