29 Years Ago: GOREMENT record Human Relic

We're satisfied with "Human Relic" demo but the vocals are too down-pitched, especially with our old singer Micke. The sound is quite good, but not really the special sound we're looking for. We want a more brutal and dark sound, we've not really found it, but we'll.

...we've used a Yamaha Rex 50 for the pitched voice, brutal but not so good. I can't remember any other special effect we used.

GOREMENT recorded their first demo on this day in 1991 at Gorysound Studio.

The cover is a detail of Jean Delville's Les Trésors de Satan, a painting first used by HEXENHAUS for their 1988 album A Tribute to Insanity and by MORBID ANGEL for their second LP Blessed Are the Sick, which was released in May 1991 (just over a month after GOREMENT recorded this demo).

...let me tell the story about the "Human Relic" cover: We found that painting from a book and thought: Yes, it's really great but we knew that HEXENHAUS had used that painting for one of their LP's, so we just took a little bit of the painting as the demo-cover, and no, the MORBID ANGEL's LP wasn't released before we did the demo cover, so we didn't take it because MORBID ANGEL had used it. Personally I don't like MORBID ANGEL so much. Well, MORBID ANGEL is HEXENHAUS rip-offs because they took the whole paining. Ok, enough about that.

...fave Death Metal bands are: CATHEDRAL (The "Sound sacrifice" EP is a classic album, Heavy/ Doom Metal at its best), TIAMAT (Their mix of melody and really Heavy, Heavy Metal is just great), MINDROT (I really love their "Faded dream" demo, it's so fucking brutal), XYSMA (Rock 'n Roll !!!!!!!), old CELTIC FROST (Old tracks from the "Morbid tales" til "Into the pandemonium" are classics in my opinion, so great!!). I also like MY DYING BRIDE, BOLT THROWER, THERION, PARADISE LOST, AT THE GATES and CREMATORY etc.

I listen to quite many different music styles besides Death Metal, eh like the new independent stuff that comes right now. I also listen quite much to classical music and of course old Heavy Metal. Some non-Death Metal faves are: ENYA, RIDE, DEEP PURPLE, SMASHING PUMPKINS, THE MOODY BLUES, L7, WAGNER, DEAD CAN DANCE... and the list goes on...
