30 Years Ago: CATHEDRAL release Forest of Equilibrium

I basically lost interest in DEATH METAL about 3-4 years ago, but CATHEDRAL is by no means a DEATH METAL band as far as I'm concerned!! TROUBLE, SABBATH etc. have been my fave bands for the last 5-6 years, and at last now I have the chance to be in a band that is influenced by such stuff.

Formed by Lee Dorrian (after leaving NAPALM DEATH), CARCASS roadie Mark Griffiths and Garry Jennings (ACID REIGN), CATHEDRAL released their debut album, Forest of Equilibrium, on this day in 1991 through Earache.

I'm glad that people have been surprised with CATHEDRAL. But having said that, I don't understand this impression a lot of people have of me as being MR HARDCORE?!? I guess a lot of it has to do with when I left NAPALM, and they were saying in interviews that I split because it was getting too commercial. That was partly true, but in no way was it the main reason. Also I guess because I wrote lyrics that actually meant something, as opposed to the total nonsense that carries the regular DEATH METAL trademark, and the fact that I listened (and still do to a certain extend) to Hardcore bands, but who didn't at that time??

[The cover art is] taken from the title track which is based or derived from the context of the song. It's bewildering to some people but it's straight forward to me. The song is about being confused by things in life. It's either one extreme or the other. Go to the center and choose goo/evil, dark/light. The drawing is the opposites on either side. The sexual aspect wasn't my idea, it was the artists. It represents the power of lust, people's dark desires.
