30 Years Ago: DARKTHRONE release Transilvanian Hunger

No other band has been boycotted to such an extent as DARKTHRONE. This feeble attempt to shut us up simply enables us to take this title: The worlds most hated band. We have no problems with that......

DARKTHRONE released their fourth album, Transilvanian Hunger, on this day in 1994 through Peaceville.

The sound is....many people would say it's a crappy sound...yeah well, it's a crappy sound but it creates atmosphere and that's the point. We didn't try and get the really nice production we did this in the name of black metal. That's the way we see it. People just change themselves. It's sort of natural for a musician to develop themselves but you know Fenriz and I...well we were both good musicians I would say just to tell you that, but when this comes to Darkthrone we are not aiming to show off what we can do. For us Black metal is a very sacred thing. To use the term Black Metal is very common these days. I mean everybody is Black Metal these days. I'm really frustrated.

Lyrics for the second half of the album are written by Varg Vikernes (BURZUM).

I asked Varg if he wanted to do some lyrics so that he could unleash Nordic art through DARKTHRONE. ON our sixth album "Total Death" we will let 7 people from Black Metal Norway speak through us. Fenriz supports all antichristians. Maybe It from ABRUPTUM would like to speak through DARKTHRONE as well?
