36 Years Ago: SIEGE record Drop Dead

SIEGE recorded at Radiobeat Studios, Boston on this day in 1984.

Radiobeat was fucking killer. Some a' the best bands were orbiting around Kenmore and the most exciting recordings in town then were coming out of there. SIEGE's shit was recorded live, too - a lot of people don't realize that.
...Lou Giordano mixed the thing with the sound effects on the fly, too...it was improv'd. [Saxophonist] Mahoney was an amusing, tolerant person, aspiring poet.

Six of the songs were released on the Drop Dead cassette in 1984, three on the 1985 Pushead-curated Cleanse the Bacteria compilation.

Four more songs from this session have emerged in recent years - on Drop Dead reissues and the Complete Discography compilation in 2019.

We had offers from a couple of larger indie-labels, and an unnamed, very big heavy metal label. But after scrutinizing the fine print on the contracts, which did not allow for the artists to keep the publishing and copyright on their work, we decided not to go forward with those particular deals. And it's a good thing that we didn't because perhaps the lack of availability helped the notoriety to grow. Somehow, staying out of sight a little bit actually added to the legend and the mystery supplemented our reputation just because the music wasn't easily available.
