37 Years Ago: JOY DIVISION live for the last time (Birmingham University)

Tickets were on sale at the union for £1.50, or £1.75 on the door. Food available, late bar.

JOY DIVISION played their final concert on this day in 1980. With support from A CERTAIN RATIO, the gig took place at Birmingham Uni's High Hall - a student block, later renamed Chamberlain Hall. The building was demolished in 2014.

This is an official soundboard recording which was released as part of Still in 1981.
Photos from that night are available as prints from Michael Emerson.

Performances were already becoming sporadic around this time due to Curtis' health. In April Bradford, London and Middlesbrough gigs were cancelled. Three more concerts were scheduled for May - Liverpool, Edinburgh and Stirling - all cancelled.

I've walked on water, run through fire.

16 days later it was all over.
