This was also the first time public performance of "Frippertronics", a tape-looping technique developed by Fripp and used in his collaboration with Brian Eno, No Pussyfooting, earlier in the decade. Eno's Ambient 1 was recorded this same year (1978).
At the time Fripp was living in New York and continued his collaborations with artists in the city including Blondie (live and guest guitar on Fade Away and Radiate). His solo album followed in 1979.
