The legendary Static Age album, recorded January-February 1978 in New York but not released until the 90's!
This version of Static Age features the songs almost entirely as they were recorded and mixed originally. The final three songs (She, Spinal Remains, In the Doorway) were not completed in 1978 and so were mixed and mastered in February 1997 for the album release.
Static Age wasn't released until 1997 but some of the recordings (most with different mixes) were previously released on the classic Bullet EP and one-half of Beware (and the unreleased Static Age/Teenagers From Mars 7").
The lineup for this record: Glenn Danzig (vocals, guitar), Jerry Only (bass, background vocals), Franche Coma (guitar), Mr. Jim (drums).
Review
Everyone in the band as they stood at the time just smokes; the recording quality is raw and strong, and those qualities which helped the Misfits stand out from the pack, especially Danzig's amazing singing and Franche Coma's fierce guitar takes on the singer's melodies, are on fine display. There's a fair amount of clangor and mess, to be sure, but it all sounds perfectly intentional, capturing a blend of punk mess, horror theatrics, and wicked humor that was theirs alone. - All Music 4/5
