From Peaceville's original promo sheet:
Darkthrone are not like any other death metal band from Norway, in fact they are not even a death metal band! They prefer the title 'unholy black metal', which this second LP 'A Blaze in the Northern Sky' will show you.
It's more of a return to the old, early eighties feel instead of following the new nineties death trend. But Darkthrone insist, it's the true way... to hell!
Now a three piece, after bassist Dag Nilsen was thrown from the line-up at the end of 1991, Darkthrone are not about to jump onto the gig scene, claiming the death crowd would not understand their new approach. This six track masterpiece is about all you are gunna get... for now!
On this day in 1992, DARKTHRONE unleashed their new era of black metal! Recorded at the local Creative Studios in Kolbotn where MAYHEM had recorded Deathcrush in 1987 and MORTEM recorded Slow Death in 1989.
We are the New Darkthrone. We deny old Darkthrone stuff. We formed in 1991. All has changed. Unholy black metal and satanic poetry are us. We hate death metal and trendy scene. We will not be part of it. To isolate it what we must do to make black metal pure!
...
We have fired members of our band and we have nothing to do with old Darkthrone. We have boycotted all live stuff, we do not wish to play with any trendy band.
