30 Years Ago: SORROW release Hatred and Disgust

SORROW released their debut album, Hatred and Disgust, on this day in 1992 through Roadrunner.

In '88 we started as a thrash band, we were totally into Slayer but that didn't do much for us in '89 so we decided to get more extreme and circulated our tape through the underground. In '90 we combined a heavy doom influence with death metal. We switched to death metal because a lot more bands we coming out like Death, Autopsy, Morbid Angel and we liked it. The doom metal thing was more calculated. It's an extreme but in our own way. It can also be melodic riffs like Trouble as opposed to blast beats.

The band formed in 1988, briefly as CYANIC DEATH before becoming APPARITION. As APPARITION they recorded two demos and a 1990 7" for Relapse.

At the time Josh was in Suffocation and his friend Matt was starting a label and Suffocation had signed with them to do an ep so we sent Matt a tape. He pressed 1000 copies of it on 7". It was the in between step we needed.
