BAUHAUS released their debut album, In the Flat Field, on this day in 1980 through 4AD / Beggars Banquet.
We didn't need [critics] and we didn't need labels; we just formed our own force. By the time Beggars Banquet had signed us we already had a large audience nationwide. We never had a press agent to lick their elbows - the people just came out in force. It was a case of "Who the hell do they think they are?" and that was perfect.
